The Grass Roots Difference
If you've ever compared our prices to those at the grocery store, you've probably noticed a difference.
That's because we're not producing food the way most of the meat industry does.
At Grass Roots Farmers' Cooperative, we're committed to raising animals with care, respecting the land they graze, and supporting the family farmers who make it all possible. Those commitments require more time, more labor, and more investment, but we believe they result in food that's better for animals, the earth, and you.
We Don't Cut Corners
Most meat sold in grocery stores comes from large-scale industrial systems designed to maximize efficiency and minimize costs. Animals are often raised indoors, fed diets that don't reflect their natural behaviors, and managed in ways that prioritize production above all else.
We take a different approach.
Our cattle and sheep spend their lives on pasture eating grass. Our pigs roam in forests where they can root and forage naturally. Our chickens and turkeys are raised on pasture with fresh air, sunshine, and room to express their natural instincts.
This isn't the easiest way to raise animals, but we believe it's the right way.
Better Lives for Animals
Animals raised outdoors require more land, more management, and more hands-on care than animals raised in confinement.
We invest in healthy pastures, rotational grazing systems, and daily stewardship because we believe animal welfare matters. When animals are allowed to live naturally, they're healthier, less stressed, and able to express the behaviors they were designed for.
The result is food you can feel good about serving your family.
Supporting Family Farms
When you purchase from Grass Roots, you're doing more than buying dinner.
You're helping support a network of independent family farmers across the United States who are committed to regenerative agriculture, humane animal husbandry, and responsible land stewardship.
Unlike conventional food systems where much of your dollar disappears into layers of middlemen, your purchase directly supports the farmers who raise your food and the workers who help process and deliver it.
We're committed to ensuring that the people who care for the animals and the land can earn a living wage for their hard work.
Investing in Healthier Land
Healthy food starts with healthy soil.
Our farmers use regenerative practices designed to improve pasture health, build soil resilience and fertility, support biodiversity, and help create lasting food systems for future generations.
Rather than extracting from the land, we work to leave it better than we found it.
Radical Transparency You Can Taste
We believe you should know exactly where your food comes from.
That’s why every Grass Roots product is labeled with the name of the family farm where it was raised. No guessing. No vague sourcing. Just real farms, real people, and real accountability.
We also operate with an open-farm philosophy. We welcome visitors, questions, and conversations about how we raise food. We believe trust is built through visibility, not marketing claims.
In a food system that often hides its practices, we choose to do the opposite.

More Than a Meal
When you choose Grass Roots Farmers Co-op, you're choosing food raised with transparency, integrity, and purpose.
- You're choosing to support family farms over factory farms.

That's why our food costs more than conventional meat.
And that's why we believe it's worth every bite.
It’s meat with intention. Happy eating, always!
