The people raising the animals share in the business, and they're paid close to 90% more than the industry standard.
That's why the chain is short and why the names are on the packages. Transparent meat sourcing isn't a policy we adopted. It's the structure of the company.
Verified by people who don't work for us
Our farms are enrolled in Land to Market's Ecological Outcome Verification. Verifiers accredited by the Savory Institute come out and take measurements on four things.
It's an outcome standard, not a checklist. It looks at what's actually happening to the land rather than what practices we say we follow.
On the farms themselves, animals are moved continually to fresh pasture. We keep roots in the ground, avoid bare soil, and don't till.

What does “farmer-owned” actually mean?
The farmers raising the animals hold ownership in the cooperative and share in what it earns. They're paid close to 90% more than the industry standard, and there's no middleman between their farm and your order.
Who checks standards?
Two groups. Savory Institute–accredited verifiers measure ecological outcomes on the land, and a governing board of member farmers visits co-op farms to confirm standards are being held across all of them.
