Pike Place Pup

Skip the ordinary hot dog and bring a Seattle favorite to your backyard. This iconic street dog features a grilled hot dog nestled in a soft steamed bun with a generous layer of cream cheese, sweet caramelized onions, and fresh jalapeños for just the right amount of heat. It's the perfect combination of creamy, savory, and spicy, all in one bite.

Ingredients

Hot Dog Buns
1 pack
Cream cheese, softened
8 oz
Yellow Onion, thinly sliced
1 large
Olive Oil
1 tbl spn
Fresh Jalapeños, thinly sliced
1-2
Butter or water, for steaming the buns

Instructions

Heat a skillet over medium heat and add the olive oil. Add the sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until soft and caramelized, about 10–12 minutes.

While the onions cook, slice each hot dog lengthwise about halfway through, being careful not to cut all the way through.

Grill or cook the hot dogs over medium heat, placing the cut side down first to create a nice sear. Flip and continue cooking until heated through.

Steam the hot dog buns until warm and soft. You can do this by placing them in a covered skillet with a splash of water for 30–60 seconds or using a steamer basket.

Spread a generous layer of softened cream cheese inside each steamed bun.

Place a grilled hot dog into each bun. Spoon the caramelized onions between the bun and the hot dog, then top with sliced fresh jalapeños.

Serve immediately.
